A natural tooth consists of a root and a crown. If you compare natural teeth to implant-supported replacement teeth, you’ll see they have the same basic parts. Both have a crown (the visible part used to chew food). Both have a root that holds the tooth securely under the gum and is anchored into the jaw. The difference is that the implant is made of titanium – the same time-tested material used by surgeons for artificial joints. When you lose a tooth, you lose both the root and the crown. To replace the tooth, the surgeon first replaces the root with a small dental implant.
Time is allowed for bone to heal and grow around the dental implant. The bone bonds with the titanium, creating a strong foundation for artificial teeth. A support post (abutment) is then placed on the implant and a new replacement tooth (crown) is placed on top of the abutment. In many cases a temporary replacement tooth can be attached to the implant immediately after it is placed. If all of your teeth are missing, a variety of treatment options are available to support the replacement teeth.
Surgical Advances in Dental Implants
Using the most recent advances in dental implant technology, Drs. Rekos, Border and Vergara are able to place single stage implants. These implants do not require a second procedure to uncover them, but do require a minimum of six weeks of healing time before artificial teeth are placed. There are even situations where the implant can be placed at the same time as the tooth extraction – further minimizing your number of surgical procedures.
Dental implant placement is a team effort between an oral and maxillofacial surgeon and a restorative dentist. Drs. Rekos, Border or Vergara performs the actual implant surgery, initial tooth extractions, and bone grafting if necessary. The restorative dentist (your dentist) fits and makes the permanent prosthesis. Your dentist will also make any temporary prosthesis needed during the implant process.

i was referred to Dr. Rekos & Border by my general dentist. I was suffering with tooth pain and needed a bridge removed and two extraction by oral surgery and a bone graft. Unfortunately, due to the urgency of my situation, i had to go to a different practice for the tooth removal because i wasn't able to get in quickly enough. I decided to follow up with them to get the implant surgery and am so happy I made the change. Dr. Border and his team were exceptionally compassionate, professional and kind. I had two implants, and considering a previous experience, I was expecting the worst. Dental work is not on the top of my list as a pleasant experience, but I have to say, I left their office with a smile on my face, albeit crooked due to the anesthesia LOL. If you are ever in need of dental work by oral surgery, don't hesitate to schedule with them as they are the best! Thank you Dr. Border and your team for excellent care!!

My daughter got all 4 wisdom teeth removed by Dr. Border. Everything went really smooth from making appointments to communicating instructions, initial assessments, estimates and procedure day. Everything was clear and on point. The office staff were friendly and helpful. Dr. Border was great! Would definitely come back. Thank you.

Doctor Victoria Vergara did an amazing job on the implant surgery. She and her team took time to explain everything about the surgery and she even called the evening after the surgery to check up on me! She is an ACE (Always Caring for Everyone)!!!

I had a severe abscess and needed an extraction. Dr. Rekos and his caring staff stayed after hours to take care of me. Then later Dr. Rekos placed an implant. I highly recommend this office and will always appreciate how kind they were to me. Thank you so much!

Dr. Border and his staff were INCREDIBLE! Excellent service! He managed to extract my tooth within 5 minutes pain free! I've never had a dentist remove my teeth so clean and effortlessly and never felt a thing! Thank you again for getting me in the same day and taking care of my tooth ache!

Dr. Border and his office were awesome. They made my son feel at ease before getting all four of his wisdom teeth out. He went in right on time. and they called us fifty minutes later to come and get him in recovery. Excellent service and staff!
